Submitted by: Durham University Friends of Palestine Society

In light of Israel’s recent illegal aggression towards Palestine – the forcible expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, the attacks on protestors and worshippers in Al-Aqsa, and Israel’s massacre of Gaza resulting in over 200 deaths (including more than 60 Children) – DU Friends of Palestine is joining Palestine solidarity societies across the country in a national day of action. Despite the University of Durham having an ethical investment policy, it is currently invested in companies complicit in Israeli apartheid to the tune of an estimated £1,523,647. These companies include HSBC, Booking.com and AXA. It also has institutional inks with Hebrew University, which has parts of its campus and dormitories built on occupied Palestinian land in East Jerusalem, in violation of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

We demand that the University of Durham divest from companies complicit in Israeli apartheid and cut links with complicit institutions until Israel complies with international law. The University of Durham must respect the boycott until Israel:

  • Ends its occupation and colonisation of all Arab lands.
  • Recognises the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality.
  • Respects, protects and promotes the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

Please sign this petition demanding that the University of Durham adheres to its ethnical investment policy and boycotts Israeli apartheid.
